POOLE GRAMMAR SCHOOL

Poole Grammar School is a unique institution: the pupils who study here, their teachers, the support staff; the richness of the academic, cultural, sporting and extra-curricular opportunities all combining to create a very special community. It has been providing a first class education for the borough of Poole since 1904 and the close ties it enjoys with the local community are evident in the number of Old Grammarians who play a leading role in the life of the town today.

The twelve year old boys who join the school today are building on the tradition of the past and our aim continues to be allow them to grow into politely self confident able young men who are equipped for the world of the 21st century where critical thinking, an international perspective, ICT skills, teamwork and independence of thought are essential for success. Our academic results place us in the premier division of Grammar Schools and are achieved by hard work, from both our capable and committed staff and from the boys themselves. We hope to challenge the brightest boys and instil a love of learning and a respect for scholarship. This is based upon a well-organised, supportive pastoral system. We are continually reviewing and evaluating what we do to ensure that we get both best value for money and equally respond to need, for example in 2006 Spanish will appear on the curriculum alongside a Learn to Learn curriculum in year 8 to extend pupil thinking skills.

We are viewed as one of the premier mathematics and Computer Science schools in the country and are sponsored by the Specialist Schools Trust to engage the local and international community with our work. The school is developing a Virtual Learning Environment, which we envisage, will allow any pupil to access their work and learning resources at any time of the day or night. This all comes at a price with a never ending demand on expanding our IT system and it is hoped that we will also be increasing the dynamism of our own web site hand in hand with the development of this new teaching and learning tool.

Our watchwords are 'personal excellence through commitment and service' and I view it as a great privilege to lead an outstanding team in delivering this vision. Old Grammarians are very welcome to visit and tour the school at any time during the term by prior appointment through the school office; equally you can take a virtual tour on our web site to see what is happening on the Gravel Hill site.
